In Memoriam

On October 1, 2023, Tim Wakefield died at his home from brain cancer. He was 57.

UPDATE: Stacy Wakefield, the widow of former Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield, has died after her own battle with cancer just five months after Tim died.  Stacy and Tim are survived by their children, Trevor and Brianna.

“Our hearts are beyond broken,” the family said in a statement distributed by the Red Sox.

Beyond baseball, the couple was known for their role in the community.

Stacy worked alongside her husband in raising money for multiple charitable groups, including the Red Sox Foundation. The couple also worked with The Jimmy Fund, raising funds for the childhood cancer charity, and visiting with pediatric cancer patients at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The BoSox Club sends our deepest sympathies to Trevor and Brianna and all who loved this beautiful couple.

Tim played for the Red Sox from 1995 to 2011 winning 200 games and pitching 3,006 innings, which is the Red Sox record.  He announced his retirement on February 17, 2012.  He went on to serve as a studio analyst for NESN through the 2023 season.

Tim and his wife, Stacy, were committed to helping the community.  Tim had been recognized in 2010 by Major League Baseball as the recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award.  He served as the Honorary Chairman of the Red Sox Foundation in 2013.  The BoSox Club had named him our Man of the Year in 1998.

Tim and Stacy will be missed this season and many seasons beyond by Red Sox Fans everywhere.
